Mr. Rushmore now and again writes decorous little nothings for the ladies that were--this one is about Claire who adored her father exclusively until his untimely death. Now she's seen nine years after WW II, just as obstinately clinging to the memory of Peter--reported missing in action--and to the insistence that he's still alive. This takes her to Paris where she hopes to find him in a shellshocked victim who remembers nothing, but hypnosis proves her wrong. To Fill the vacuum nature abhors, she salvages a small child instead. . . . A lovesud.
