SUNRISE ON MERCURY: And Other Science Fiction Stories

Eight of Silverberg's own stories, originally published between 1956 and 1969, are collected here, probably for his fans, since most are still easily accessible in other anthologies (notably Silverberg's). However, in this case the emphasis is on humor and irony, two aspects of science fiction in which Silverberg excels--probably the two best stories here are ""Hi Diddle Diddle!"" about the construction of a cow, and ""There Was an Old Woman,"" concerning a case of justifiable matricide. If the pretensions of some of the other stories here can be ignored (and they aren't nearly as heavy as some of Silverberg's more recent ones), then this might be considered representative of the author's best.
