THE STOCHASTIC MAN

The narrator, a probability (""stochastics"") expert working for a presidential hopeful at the turn of the 20th century, becomes obsessed or possessed by an eccentric millionaire who gets into another time flow and ""sees"" the future at convenient intervals. Useful enough plot, developed with verve and ingenuity up to a point, but there's too much bad sex, and the denouement wraps up too many issues (individual will vs. submission to flux of events; when is the future not the future?) both sloppily and discordantly.
