KIRKUS REVIEW

Short cut, epic and span biographical sketches of the game's greats who played before the present generation was born. Alexander Cartwright who invented baseball from round ball and ""one hole cat"" when New York City was young; Dickey Pearce who bunted the first bunt in 1850 and revolutionized field tactics; Albert G. Spalding who made the balls, the bats, the mits and the gloves- are a few of the many mentioned. There are some present day well knowns like Babe Ruth and Jackie Robinson. Fine history for the enthusiast.
