KIRKUS REVIEW

The development of the sport is shown from the days when it resembled a community riot in England, to its introduction as a collegiate sport here in 1869, and its emergence as a play-for-pay pastime in the 1890's. Its evolution into a truly national spectacle is well covered, but by no means completely, owing to limitations of space. Some of the immortals from ""Red"" Grange up and their accomplishments are entertainingly described. All in all, very satisfactory for all ages.
