NINE WHO SURVIVED

...... the atomic bombing of both Hiroshima and Nagasaki, based on direct interviews, forms a record of the devastation of atomic warfare reduced to its simplest and most horrifying essentials. Retracing their experiences through the ruins of first one city, and then another, these double survivors- an accountant, a young ship designer (the only one to suffer permanent disability), a master kite maker and his three helpers, a newspaper publisher and an engineer describe the ""lightning flash"" from the ""mushroom cloud"" which was to leave the ares prostrate, in a litter of lives mutilated or ended. The after-effects of the bombings, based on later findings, conclude these annals.... Perhaps not as eloquent as John Bersey's classic piece, but a necessary recapitulation and reminder.
