LOVE AND THE LIEUTENANT

First rate story of the Cardigan genre -- historical and romantic fiction in Chambers' best vein. An unusual facet of the American Revolution, and -- read with That Bennington Mob by Henry Stafford (Messner) -- makes a rounded picture of the Burgoyne campaign, Lake Champlain, Ticonderoga, Bennington, Saratoga. The Lieutenant is a New York Tory, sent to Germany to recruit Hessian mercenaries, and he returns with the troops to Quebec -- and disaster. Good yarn.
