A sociological study, statistical in its evidence, showing the hows and whys of the Negro housing problem. The historical development, of northern migration, of extension of city ghettos, of war impetus to overcrowded tenements, of paucity of government assistance. Policies and programs, city by city- the fight for democratic patterns- the resistances and racial covenants, recently outlawed. Weaver contends that Negro occupancy does not debase real estate values and outlines fundamental principles for more units at low cost and interracial living on a democratic basis.
