The paster of the First Presbyterian Church in South Boston, Virginia, has prepared a textbook on preaching which should be of practical value to theological students and young ministers, and might not come amiss as a stimulus to some of the elder clergy who have gone stale on preaching. There is nothing very unusual in either matter or manner of presentation, but the advice is straightforward and sound. He discusses various phases of selection of subjects, organisation of material, purpose of the particular sermon character of congregation, manner of delivery, style, etc. Mmiltics somewhat simplified, and carried to practical application of theories involved.
