THE LEGENDS OF PAUL BUNYAN

These legends of the biggest, the strongest, the most resourceful axman of them all seems out of place in this series. A brief introduction describes the disputed origin of the tales, but the value of legend, any legend, to a better understanding of a nation's history is not discussed. 25 short chapters of tall tales revolving around Paul and Babe are adequately retold. But, their reader/curriculum interest seems at the 11-13 level and the chances are, as far as the voluntary reader goes, that the magnificent Paul is too familiar to be sought out again at just this point.
