THE WESTERN ISLAND

The Western Island is the Great Blasket, a small island of a hundred and fifty people three miles west of Ireland's County Kerry in the Atlantic. Here, by a member of the British Musum who spent many years there, are the traditional tales of the people --preserved in prose and verse. A mosaic of history and description, legend and lore, folkways and blarney, which has much of the Irish vitality and lyricism -- and a certain special charm. The market however is conjectural.
