If you cut out Jill's sketches of her shipboard acquaintances they would have as much character as the author's paper-doll portraits. Jill is our twelve-year-old heroine who, along with her cousin Connie, suspects that one of the passengers is plotting to steal the heavily-guarded Goya which is being shipped to France on the Ocean Princess; the two are determined to solve the uncommitted crime. A contrived plot, an insipid romance, prescription characters and an unmysterious mystery fail to rock the boat.
