KIRKUS REVIEW

A casual, civilized travel commentary which is in line with his earlier Nomad and North African Notebook and which records a journey to Siwa, an oasis in the Libyan desert and at one time one of the five great oracles of the world. In text, and beautiful photographs by his companion, Dimitri Papadimou, these impressions of the town- rising on a rock, of the groves, of the natives- aloof and secretive- and their isolated, indolent world apart convey the full character of a foreign spot.
