MY VERY OWN HALLOWEEN: A Book of Cooking and Crafts

Five meals that would be appropriate for a children's party, each with detailed instructions for preparing the food and a decoration for the particular theme (""Witch's Brew""; ""Creepy Crawlies""; etc.). West begins with some sensible general comments about nutrition, menu planning, and good kitchen practice, including safety and etiquette. The simple, mostly wholesome recipes are sure to appeal to children--especially with names like ""green eye pie"" (grapes and sour cream), ""bubbling cauldron chili,"" or ""witch's hair slaw."" Luscious-looking food is featured in the color photos at the beginning of each section, which also suggest additional decorations like plastic figures; in addition to clear diagrams for the craft projects, Susan Slattery Burke contributes a comical cluck and alligator that appear from time to time. An attractive book with recipes and activities that children can manage on their own or with minimal adult help. Glossary; index.
