In a turnabout on the self-improvement mentality of ""Would you like to swing on a star?"" these rhymes teasingly suggest that the animal kingdom may not have it so bad after all -- ""Would you rather be a piglet or a child?/ A roly-poly piglet or a child?/ If a pig got sort of gloppy,/ Would his parents call him sloppy?/ Would you rather be a piglet or a child?"" Except for a few especially delicious lines (""If a bird was eating worms,/ Would his folks scream, 'You'll get germs?'"") most of the verses are carried along by Barbara Cooney's small pictures of comfortably costumed parents (in aprons, suspenders, overalls, nightgowns. . .) benignly observing their offsprings' behavior.
