Rod Serling, who following Paddy Chayevsky took a commanding lead over the television drama field with the appearance of Patterns (later a film), finds a more permanent form for the ""most perishable item known to man""- the television script- and along with Patterns, The Rack, Old MacDonald Had A Curve, and Requiem for a Heavyweight appear here. There is an entertaining to enlightening introduction to this new mass medium (which ""hasn't exhausted its potential or altogether found its niche""), on Serling's own career in it, as well as individual commentaries on the scripts.
