Is there something odd about the ""accidental"" deaths of Roger Clarke, Peter Short, and Simon Allen--all British expatriates on Majorca with nothing in common. . . except very expensive establishments and no visible source of income? Police Inspector Enrique Alvarez (Just Deserts, etc.) thinks so. And Alvarez knows he's on to something when he finds that they were all part of a scuba-diving course on the island three years before. Then there's another death from that group, also labeled an accident. Even the scuba group's instructor will eventually become a fatality. So Alvarez, who now knows that a sunken treasure was found, wonders where it is. . . and who could still be alive to benefit from it? Reliable, readable, middling Jeffries--with the Inspector rather tortuously working out a nice puzzle, scarcely slowed down by a torrid (but short-lived) affair with Clarke's free-spirited girlfriend.
