Too bad the story is so slight and the mystery so readily solved, for the flavor of this tale of the wilds is fascinating to anyone with an ounce of feel for nature. Haig-Brown knows his woods, his creatures of the wilderness. Don Morgan was sixteen when he ran his trap line into the lonely unknown of British Columbia. He found that someone else had often been there first -- or that his traps were sprung -- or that he was being watched. And eventually, he found out who it was and why -- and the outcome presumably offset the disappointments of the winter's catch.
