THUMBPRINT CIRCUS

A simple idea is carried out with imagination and charm: all the figures here are based on thumbprints extended by simple lines. Thumbkin, a clown, wants to join the circus. Taken on trial, he helps out in various acts involving animals (bears, seals, elephants) and other performers. In each case, the circus ring is represented by a circle surrounded by festive blue, yellow, and pink shading from one to another; the performers are shown in decorative designs within the circles. Pleasing touches of humor and a bit of suspense at the end (what became of Thumbkin when he was shot from the cannon?) round out this amusing, well-designed tour of the circus.
