KIRKUS REVIEW

At first one feels that this is an artificial way to introduce small readers to the story of America. The dialogue seems artificial, the story element too obvious. But -- at the close -- one looks back and realizes that not only has the opening up of a new country been skilfully introduced, but that a great deal has been added of the hows and wherefores of our growth.
