Handsome, colorful drawings fail to compensate for an uninspired text in this retelling of Pizarro's search for the Land of Gold, Peru. From swineherd to foot soldier to conqueror, Pizarro travels a bloody route, full of movie heroics, over the bodies of men, to become Conqueror of Peru and the Incas. Somehow to us, murder even with a Spanish priest planting a cross next to the flag isn't pretty reading. Good-looking de luxe merchandise.
