THE HANDBOOK OF PUBLIC PRAYER

The preacher who prays in public, as all regularly must, often stands in need of some assistance to rescue him from the twin dangers of repetition and discursiveness, not to mention the bog of inflated -- or the waste-land of no rhetoric at all. He is all too prone just himself"", to the distress of the flock who expect him to help them lift up their hearts to God. The ""public pray-er"" needs both to be led and fed, aided by great prayers of others, uttered through the ages by generations who have mastered the art of prayer.
