A GUIDE TO CREATIVE WRITING

A plea for using the obvious near-at-hand material, for developing techniques of observation, and a sound, commonsense approach to the mastery of the tools of writing. How to see- and describe-action; how to relate objects to their surroundings; how to relate emotions to people, to keep objective, to express mood. The handling of people -- devices that aid in achievement of goals -- the shaping of material for relevance, drama, etc. There is, too, a good deal on work habits, importance of rewriting, and-for each section, some problems posed and exercises suggested. Good handbook for class study or individual aid.
