Antonio, who'd switch his farmer's hat for a fisherman's barrete like his father's, confides his ambition (at length) to a lucky hawk, hears the seafaring history of Portugal in the whispers of the wind (O mar . . . O mar), daydreams himself on the deck of his father's ship, and finally gets a chance to prove himself deserving (if not exactly seaworthy) by talking a team of oxen into pulling the threatened ships onto the beach in a storm. A flimsy paste-up that's also a put-up, and the assorted specifics on Portuguese life are just that.
