KIRKUS REVIEW

Well-known as the author of the best-selling biography of Martin Luther, Here I Stand, Dr. Bainton, with brilliance and surgical precision, dissects the Christian approach to sex. He shows that historically three distinct attitudes toward sex, love and marriage have emerged from the time of Christ and Paul until now:- the sacramental (in which marriage often was thought of as a remedy for sex) the romantic (in which the woman tends to be worshipped), and the companionable (in which community of conviction may even curtail sex). Modern Protestantism, says Dr. Bainton, blends the best aspects of all three. writes with a great concern for human values at all levels, and has produced a book which should be especially helpful to adolescents, young parents, etc.
