Here's a book for a long life and a substantial but specialized sale. I studied Church History out of a pedantic, cardboard bound, unillustrated book. I've never seen the subject handled with the drama and story and adventure which belongs to it -- nor have I seen it in an attractive and appealing book, with loads of pictures, over 200, based on contemporary sources. An invaluable book for Sunday Schools of non-Catholic denominations, objective, undogmatic, sound basic information in thoroughly readable form, and with nothing that Catholics can object to, though the balance is not weighted in their favor. Tolerant, fair treatment of the checkered career of the Christian church, from its founding on to the age of comparative freedom. Call to attention of local clergymen and Sunday School superintendents.
