THE WIND OF TIME

This last volume by Rolfe Humphries is on the whole disappointing. It shows little direction, integration or coherence of style. The verse moves from a mildly serious to a mildly light mood, and in no case expresses anything worth noting or remembering. The poetical sensitivity is not deep and the point of view inconsequential. This is the more discouraging as Humphries' earlier work seemed to show much lyrical promise.
