LITURGY AND THE MISSIONS

The Nijmegen Papers on the liturgy and the missions, collected and printed in this volume, are a major contribution to missiology and to the liturgical movement. They represent the talks read and circulated at meetings of the International Study Week on Mission and Liturgy held at Nijmegen and Uden, Holland, September 12-19, 1959. The contributors of the 27 years represent some of the most authoritative and best informed of the Catholic clergy scattered among mission countries all over the world. The general topic of all the papers is the missionary value of the liturgy. Particular subjects include the urgency of liturgical renewal among missionaries, the Mass and Sunday services, the Sacraments, the Ritual and liturgical formation. The papers are a blend of the speculative and the practical, the conservative and the progressive. They should be of interest to all Catholics, but particularly to those engaged or interested in missiology and in the liturgical movement.
