KIRKUS REVIEW

For young preschoolers, a simple exploration of a garden (British for yard) full of flowers, birds in a birdbath, frogs in a pond, mice in a wall, and friends to share a picnic. Each double-page spread has a half-page to flip and change the scene; numbers from one to five are mentioned in order, and there are other easily countable items up to nine. As in Maris' other books (e.g., My Book, I Wish I Could Fly), the clear, brightly colored illustrations are attractive and distinguished by beautiful composition. A book to share as a counting book or for the toddlers' group, or for the small ""reader"" to pore over alone, practicing names and searching out the entrancing, perfectly selected details.
