. . . especially Hollywood stars who follow Ron Fletcher's Contrology--""movement that demands thought with spirit with breath with body, one supporting the others."" Here, however, you have to fight your way through the testimonials to find the directions which coordinate movement with breathing (Percussive Breathing) and force attention on centering the body. Fletcher's exercises plus a few nutritional watchwords are designed to improve ""bust, back, and buns"" by forming a girdle of strength--not, as Donna McKechnie thought, something that Wonder Woman wears, but a steady tightening of abdominal muscles. This resembles another ex-dancer's recent entry--The Nickolaus Technique--in its basic approach and visual appeal, but it offers both less and more. The praise and puffery gets a bit wearing (""When you come to feel what an incredible piece of equipment your body really is--when that awareness hits you, a new respect for your body lights up your life,"" Susan Blakely coos). But the chapters for the aging, pregnant, and handicapped will be appreciated.
