THE SMUGGLER'S BRIDE

One of those older-fashioned gigs about a little governess who is sent packing and goes to take care of old Mr. Hardware--dying after a bad fall with a worse conscience. To ease his way into the next world, she agrees to marry him on his deathbed and only later discovers not only how he has neglected his land but also that he was a smuggler who had turned King's evidence. Fortunately there's a protector to look after her now. Better than many (a somewhat different story, no froufrou) to be read through rose-colored spyglasses.
