He was make-believe, and Teddy found him very useful,"" announces Dauer unnecessarily of Teddy's friend Jasper Jones. When Jasper Jones breaks Teddy's bed and then when he fills his bureau with leaves, Teddy's parents help clean up, but when Teddy's walls are painted with peanut butter they make him clean up after his friend by himself. At that, Teddy sends Jasper Jones packing--only confirming that he was a mere convenience ali along, not the kind of imaginary presence who might be worth knowing. And Joyner's double-vision projection of the episodes (Jasper performs in full color above small black-and-white panels depicting the drabber reality) don't disguise the utilitarian adult perspective.
