KIRKUS REVIEW

A collection of ten, more or less unfamiliar fairy-tales, well told and each containing a core of wisdom, Once-Upon-A-Time is a bonanza at its small cost. Attractively illustrated in color by Walter Hodges, this collection maintains the allure of the long-ago world while managing to make very sound contemporary sense. It is hoped that the outburst of violence in these stories, hinging on very possible situations, will be softened by the comfortable cushion of make-believe.
