KIRKUS REVIEW

I expected these to be martial poems, from the title, but found the collection included all sorts,-nature lyrics, ballad and story poetry, and a few action poems and poems of courage. There were a few old standbyes, but for the most part it proved to be a singularly unhackneyed collection. The format is not altogether happy. Conventional line drawings-nice ones-by Irene Mountfort, but the paper suggests a cheaper type of book than warranted by the price.
