AND NO MAN'S WIT by Rose Macaulay

AND NO MAN'S WIT

By

Publisher: Little, Brown

This is no ""quick trick"" turn for Rose Macaulay. Into a slender thread of plot -- as an English family sets about locating the son, lost -- but not believed killed -- from the International Brigade following the Spanish Civil War. In the course of the search, representatives of every facet of Spanish political and social thought have their say; French and English come in for their turn; and the story simply furnishes the skeleton on which is draped a virtual debate on world politics. Occasionally, Miss Macaulay's acidulous wit betrays her into a flash of brilliance, but on the whole this is pretty solid, sober going, relieved only by pictures of somber postwar Spain.
