KIRKUS REVIEW

A journey inland, along the shores of Spain to Portugal, which is gentle in its scholarship, cultivated and interested, and always conscious of the cultural heritage and magnificence of the past as it is to be seen today. For Miss Macaulay gives a visual stress to this account where architecture predominates, castles, churches and monasteries, cities and villages, and less occasionally shops and native wares and peoples. From Catalonia, she traveled by car to the ""ancient green kingdom of Valencia"", then to Murcia Andalucia- Granada and the Alhambra and Gibraltar and Cadiz- and finally to the journey's end in Portugal. Bright in color, rich in tone, this is a special sort of travel book.
