This time it is Mother, who -- to balance Father's chasing of wild geese, persists in taking boarders to provide a steady income. She makes her guests part of the family, and makes the family responsible for the guests, and so manages to provide a constant source of surprises and activities for all. Mother comes up smiling from encounters with the unions, servants, impossible guests, -- a runaway wife, the drunken yodeler, and so on. Episodes galore, and fun reading.
