KIRKUS REVIEW

In a change of pace from Albert the Dragon Rosemary Weir has written an historical novel, which is based on Restoration England at the time of the great plague. Tom Wright, the 13 year old son of a pharmacist, is sent away from his home when his family is stricken with the disease. He manages with difficulty to escape from London and goes to stay at the country estate of his estranged grandfather, but returns to London in time for the fire which destroyed much of the city, including his home. Without going into too much gruesome detail, the author has convincingly reconstructed the London of this trying period, and peopled it with well-realized characters.
