Encounters in Sumatra, French Guiana, Ecuador to Central Asia, Persia and the Red Sea, Chicago, New Guinea, Mexico, Poland and Vienna, Pacific Islands, the Atlas Mountains, with persons the author has met in her travels -- their stories and backgrounds and the finis to the tales, sometimes years later. There is murder, love, magic and adventure among the ingredients of these happenings and their drama reads more like fiction than actual events (the author admits the circumstances are ""more or less fantastic"") but highlighting the characters she has met in the course of seventeen years of travel makes good reading -- if sometimes melodramatic.
