THE ILLUSTRATED BOOK OF THE SEA

The underwater wonderland and its denizens --microscopic protozoa, diatoms, sponges and seaweeds, sea squirts and polyps, the flower animals, the malevolent jellyfish, the oyster, coated with mother of pearl, the lovely and familiar sea shells, tropical, unusual and food fishes, whales and seals, walruses, sharks and sea turtles are pictured with deference both to science and art. Easy language and large type make this a suitable addition to the elementary science shelf. An index makes it a good reference tool. The brilliant colorings of the illustrations strengthen its visual appeal as a picture book- although the substantial text takes it out of that category.
