My purpose is to present information, not to. . .prescribe or suggest,"" writes Pelton, a pharmacist, about this survey of nutrients and drugs that purportedly enhance and maintain intelligence. Indeed some of the drugs, by his own admission, need more research, and several are unavailable in this country or available only by prescription. But Pelton deplores the FDA restrictions; he emphatically recommends the nutritional supplements; his tone overall is highly positive; and he supplies mail-order addresses, including one for obtaining drugs from Mexico. As a general survey of how the different drugs act on the brain and simply how research in the field is picking up, this has undeniable interest. But it's all a little too promotional to inspire trust in any particular drug or program.
