Known already to many because of his previous writings, and because of the pioneer work he did for a quarter of a century at the First Community Church of Columbus, Ohio, where he established a spiritual laboratory to bring the resources of sociology, psychology, psychiatry and religion into a working relationship, this book will win for the Rev. Roy Burkhart many more friends in all the ""helping disciplines"" as well as among the many who are striving to become the persons they can be. He describes what a full and meaningful life is, and the available resources to live that life. There are ""real-life"" illustrations which show how others have met stress and strain successfully, and he shares also a great deal of his own life and the choices he has made which have resulted in his extraordinarily helpful ministry to young and old across the years. There is both psychological and theological depth here, but all he says is readily available to the reader who makes no claim to any special training or learning. This is in no way another popular volume of ""positive thinking"", studded with success stories to stimulate the reader to go and do likewise. It never suggests that a person may become the person he can be in ten easy steps. There are true and tried ways for a man to become a real person, but the way is hard and the discipline is strict. Neither is this a ""let go, and let God"" book. But God is present on every page, as many readers will discover with gratitude and joy.
