COLOUR ALL THE YEAR ROUND: A Complete Handbook for the Small Flower Garden

By

Publisher: St Martin's Press

This subtitle claims perhaps more than can be literally applied to most small gardens in the United States, but there is sufficient scope of coverage to prove exceedingly useful. By the judicious selection of material from the excellent lists provided under Hedge, Ornamental Trees, Flowering Shrubs and Wall Covers, basic background factors are provided for, and even the value of colored stems, berries, leaves contribute to substantiating the claim. In choosing for recommendation those roses that fit the scale of the scale of the small garden, plans for bedding schemes- annuals, half hardy, perennials, foliage plants, bulbs etc., this matter of year round color meets at least 2/3 requirement, even in our climate of extremes. Particularly valuable is the very practical information on preparing beds, cultivation and after care- with the sightliness of the small garden a year round factor. A small guide- highly recommended, but bear in mind its English origin. The illustrations, while informative, are so greyed down as to be rather unimpressive.
