Some 3500 years ago the political, economic and social systems were about as brutal as they are today. Into this world there came the prophet Moses preaching God's message that man was free, made in His image, and to Ezra ben Adab democracy dawned as a ray of hope for the present and a promise of eternal life. Dr. Smith has a vivid style but the subject is such a vital one today that the reader needs very little imagination to see the parallel between the world of Moses' day and our own. The growth of democracy, its inevitable barriers and obstacles are clearly outlined and the answers are the same as they were on Sinai. Dictators, greed and suffering still persist and a Christian Democracy is still the answer. It hasn't been tried and failed. It has never been tried.
