NOTHING BUT FOXES

Murder at the Northumbrian hunt--as made gruesomely clear when the hounds ignore the fox and pounce instead on a dead body, that of seedy James Sweet, a neighborhood rabble-rouser who'd been protesting against blood sports. Chief Inspector Crow is called in from Scotland Yard and finds that the local gentry--hunters all--resent his investigations. But it soon appears that Sweet was annoying many other people with his grimy lifestyle and his half-baked muckraking--including a bogus revivalist. And then another murder follows, pointing right back to some highly-placed folk indeed. Stolid, rather humorless British detection, with the local colors of the North as a slight added inducement.
