SHOWCASE by Roy Newquist

So here, then are about half of my favorite people in the entertainment world."" In this ""exercise in self indulgence"" critic Newquist invites the reader to sit in on an informal chat with twenty-five heroes and heroines of Show Business. There is a brief paragraph before each session that gives a breakdown of the personality's career and the interview itself follows the standard format-- the autobiographical rundown then into the personal questions and on to the universals. The book is good because Mr. Newquist has evidently carefully worked out the right questions and they vary with the individual. Would you like to know what Sir John Gielgud thought of Richard Burton's Hamlet? or Edward Albee thinks of critics?Others included are Julie Andrews, Sammy Davis, Agnes DeMille, Julie Harris, Helen Hayes, Jack Lemmon, Ann Corio, Hume Cronyn, Dame Edith Evans, George Grizzard, Calvin Jackson, Danny Kaye, Ernest Lehman, Tanya Moiseiwitsch, Gerry Mulligan, Phyllis Newman, Mike Nichols, Peter O'Toole, Robert Preston, Harold Prince, Rosalind Russell, Janet Gaynor and Jessica Tandy.
