THE LINCOLN LEGEND

Here's a book that had to be done, and the tremendous task, as carried out by Mr. Basler, is admirably performed. He has carried out an exhaustive and meticulous searching into the sources of ""the Lincoln legend"" -- contemporary material, poetry, fiction, history, biography, primary sources, records, the memories of individuals --every possible angle -- to weigh the evidence, to present this bit of information on one side, that on the other. He has included much that is unfamiliar to the average reader, and that adds materially to a rounded knowledge of Lincoln. He does not attempt, except in rare instances, to make a definite and final decision. He simply shows how the ""legend"" has grown, and through so doing makes his own contribution and mead of praise. A book every collector of Lincoln data will have to own, and that every public and school library should have available.
