QUEST FOR THE UNKNOWN

This collection is a random sampling and recounting of expeditions and discoveries made by young people. Mr. Pinney's narrative style is akin to that of National Geographic. The book makes for good recreational/informative reading. The teenagers discussed illustrate the reasons why explorers from time immemorial have risked discomforts, and occasionally their necks, to find out about such things as unmapped caverns, King Solomon's Mines and the treasure-strewn floor of the Mediterranean. These reasons prove to be still the same, time-honored motives of the more famous explorers -- the driving need to satisfy curiosity and the hope of adding to the total body of knowledge in science or history.
