A WILD GOOSE CHASE

Out of the meadow and over a log where I was hiding, a goose chased a frog, chasing a chicken, chasing a hog, chasing a chipmunk, chasing a dog, chasing a polliwog, chasing a chinch bug, searching for oats in a bog."" That's the first half of the book, and the rest has each animal catching the one it was chasing--""And I caught the goose!"" The totally conventional pictures fail to make anything funny out of such incongruities as the little chipmunk ""catching"" the large dog (by hopping onto its tail) and about all we can say for the whole silly sequence--a wild goose chase being one that comes to nothing--is that it's appropriately titled.
