KIRKUS REVIEW

This ""out of the barrel"" would better have been left there. A silly sentimental story, told in the first person, by a tiny dog whose father's ""art"" was seeking -- and finding-truffles. His wee son inherits this gift, but has great difficulty in convincing his new owners, an elderly forester and his consumptive daughter, that therein lies their security. But Fate plays into his hands -- and he saves them.
